where to buy packing paper for dishes U-Haul: Moving supplies: Packing Paper (10lb. pack)

I contacted the manufacturer of this Duck brand Packing Paper - ShurTech Brands, LLC, Avon, OH, Toll-free number: 1.800.321.0253. I was informed by one of their customer service representatives that this paper is NOT acid free.

I want to use this along with an inside a/c cover. Will this be dense enough?

A.The packaging does not say "acid-free." I would therefore assume it is not acid free.

A.Not sure I understand the use you describe. Know that this paper is lightweight, though sturdy. It's made to bend and fold and easily wraps around oddly shaped glass and dishes.

Excellent tips, will save for the next time I move!

Tip: Have A Move In Kit

When moving into a home, throw these few things into a bag and have them ready to take into the house on the first trip. It will save you lots of frustration:

  1. A roll of toilet paper, hand soap, and a towel. You won't know until you get there if there will be any, so be prepared.
  2. Light bulbs and/or a lamp. Flashlights if the power will not be on yet.
  3. Shower curtain, rod, and rings.
A womans size 12 shirt should be able to wrap about 12 - 15 items if they are not too bulky, but U can experiment to see what seems to work for you.

Wardrobe boxes are expensive, but great to use. Perhaps try to freecycle them (?)

I agree with using the special moving boxes for hanging clothes that are called "wardrobe" boxes. They are worth the expense I found. They have a bar to hang the hangers on, just like there usually is in a closet and tight fitting sleeve-style covers.

Question: Packing Breakables When Moving

I am packing to move. How do I pack my pot lids that are made of glass? I have 6 of them.

Pack them in with your cushions, pillows or towels.

As noted in my review, it is much lighter than ordinary Kraft paper (think brown paper sack) or even ordinary 20-lb. printer paper you might use in your office.

A.Thank you for your question orangemn! The packing paper is intended for use in wrapping or packing and is slightly heavier than tissue paper. If you are looking for additional help in insulating your air conditioner, you may want to try our A/C Insulating Seal (available in 2 sizes) or our Multi-Purpose Insulation. Is this heavier than tissue paper

I want to use it as blank gift wrap for the outside of a boxed package.

Fill the top of your carton with paper so that when you tape down the top flaps, you cannot depress or push down on the top of the packing box. When loaded into a moving truck, boxes are usually stacked several boxes high - if your carton is not...MORE firmly packed, the resulting compression can damage your contents.

Remember to always mark your boxes to make unloading into the proper area or room easier for the movers. If you anticipate another move in the not-so-distant future, you can flatten your dish barrels or packing boxes for recycling, plus lay out and straighten all the packing paper. Bundle it and store packing materials in a dry place.

Reusing packing materials can help to reduce your moving costs if you expect to be relocating again soon, so the extra work is certainly worth it.

You can buy 10 pound bags of popcorn for very little money. All you need to do is get out your air popper, and 10 pounds of popcorn will probably fill up a very large move. I really did this for one move when I went across country. Read More...

Tip: Update on Green Moving

DH and I finally got moved and are in process of unpacking. I encountered some minor things which were not problems, but I would change if I had it to do over.

Tip: Packing Materials for Glass Items

Cheap paper towels are the best wrapper for glass items when packing to move. It leaves no black ink residue the way newspaper does. It's thick and reliable and best of all, it can be used again after you unpack!

Tip: Packing Dishes and Linens

Use towels, wash cloths, and sheets to wrap lamps, dishes, and other fragile items.
