The Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development (JRRD) is Phasing Out – The Public Library of Science (PLOS) is the New Home for the Veteran-centric Rehabilitation Research Community

Dear JRRD Readership,

JRRD, housed within the Rehabilitation Research and Development Service (RR&D), is being phased out and manuscript submissions are no longer being accepted. As part of that process, JRRD published the final print edition in September 2016. The final papers of JRRD will be published in an electronic only issue (Volume 53 Number 6) from November 2016 through March 2017.

It was important to RR&D to find a new venue where the rehabilitation community can convene and publish rehabilitation research that addresses Veterans healthcare issues. To this end, JRRD/RR&D fortunately entered into conversations with PLOS – open access publisher of 7 biomedical journals – and found in PLOS a like-minded organization interested in continuing the JRRD Veteran-centric mission. Hence, the PLOS Veterans Disability & Rehabilitation Research Channel (https://channels.plos.org/vdrrc) is the new venue and represents the future of Veteran-centric rehabilitation research. We recommend that you consider submitting your manuscript to PLOS.

Channels are resources for communities: a single destination that features curated content selected from PLOS journals as well as the broader literature, supplemented by commentary, blogs, news and discussions. The content included in a Channel is selected by experts in their field, known as Channel Editors (you can read more about the Channel Editors here: http://blogs.plos.org/collections/the-veteran-disability-rehabilitation-research-channel-meet-the-editors).

The Veteran Disability and Rehabilitation Research Channel features articles on a wide range of topics relevant to veteran disability and rehabilitation research. The Channel editors aim to showcase the most up to date research to assist veterans and all adults around the world with chronic illness and disability.

Both PLOS and JRRD/RR&D recognized the value of Channels to maintain a high quality venue dedicated to Veteran-centric rehabilitation research. PLOS is excited to start seeing your research submitted to the Channel. Please go to (https://channels.plos.org/vdrrc) for detailed information. Should you have any questions about PLOS Channels, please contact [email protected]
