S1 French students have been studying food and drink. Over Easter, they were invited to test an original crêpe recipe with their own choice of topping. Kitchens across Sheffield were transformed into French style crêperie's as the boys competed to produce the ultimate crêpe. Congratulations to all entrants and to the joint winners, Samuel Richards and Luke Offer.

Birkdale boys gave prize-winning performances on the violin last Saturday at the Buxton Music and Drama Festival. Nayan Gupta, aged 9, won the Grade 3 and 4 violin class with an extremely high distinction mark, whilst Tammam Al-Bahri, Leo Kyeremateng and Sebastian Baldwin were all awarded prizes or medals in other classes. These included a chocolate medal for Sebastian who gave his first public performance in the preparatory class! All the boys learn the violin with Dr Lara James who was there to accompany them on the piano.

Parents and pupils from the Prep School braved the weather on Friday night for the annual Kids Under Canvas event. The event, organised by Friends of Birkdale School attracted nearly 100 campers as 30 tents pitched at Castle Dyke. Everyone had a great time playing games and enjoying freshly made pizzas supplied by the mobile pizza oven from Proove.

As part of the Prep 3 Arts Award Explore Program, a showcase of their work was displayed in the School Hall. The canvas paintings that they produced during their Art lessons based on their dreams, the silent movies that they made in their drama lessons and the work from their music lessons based on "Mars" were all displayed for the parents to see.

Rugby goes from strength to strength at Birkdale, which is no surprise when you consider their outstanding team of coaches. The trio, which includes Adam Byron as Director of Rugby at Birkdale School is also Head Coach at the recently promoted Sheffield RUFC. They achieved promotion to National 2, which is the fourth tier of England rugby and are now looking forward to next season playing at a higher level.
