Now a researcher at the University of Toronto named Jordan Peterson says he can prove there is some science behind the act of writing down your goals. He’s developed an undergraduate program at UofT called Maps of Meaning, the central tenet of which is something he calls “self-authoring,” which involves a series of biographical writing exercises about your past, present and future life. By identifying pivotal moments from your past and reflecting on how they shape who you are, you can then set goals and explore strategies for overcoming obstacles.
