All I did was get a 1040X form and I followed the directions, I also would try using a program like TurboTax if you are unsure of the calculations. You can't file online but you can complete it online and print it. It took about 4 weeks for me to receive the money. I did the same thing a few months ago and I received an additional $1300. Fill out the form for the Hope Credit and send it with the 1040X. It isn't real complicated - if you do your own taxes you should be able to do the amendment.
