Grant writer washington dc

grant writer washington dc

My name is Ron Flavin and I am a highly successful grant writer serving the Washington, DC area. Over the past ten years I have secured more than 0 million in grants for my clients, obtaining single grant awards in excess of million.

I believe that my strong entrepreneurial background holds the secret to my success as a grant writer. I started my first business (with a business partner) when I was 20 years old and have for the most part, been self-employed since then. Eventually, I decided to go back to school and get an education. Since then I’ve gotten a BA, an MBA and have just finished the coursework for my Doctorate. I am also fluent in Spanish (reading, writing and speaking).

I first began writing grants as a volunteer, where I found out that I really have a knack for it, even though I never studied it formally. As my success grew, word spread and more people started hiring me. I eventually took a job with the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, where I worked as the Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations for about two years. I really liked working at the Norton but wanted the freedom to pursue some other avenues so in 2002 I went off on my own, working as a consultant and grant writer. My entrepreneurial background enables me to approach projects not just from a writer’s perspective but from a businessperson’s perspective as well. Because of that i can look at projects objectively and keep the focus where it needs to be. I’m a no-nonsense, concise writer. I also regularly work as a professional grant reviewer for a number of state and federal funding agencies including the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Energy, Administration for Native Americans and more.

My work as a reviewer gives me a unique insight into the key elements that set proposals that get funded apart from those that do not get funded. I am also a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars on the topic grants of all types. I am especially skilled at writing grants for “hard to fund” projects and programs including businesses, substance abuse and alcoholism, ex-offenders and re-entry programs, capital campaigns, start-up projects, after-school programs and more. Most of my business comes from word-of-mouth referrals. My clients hire me again and again and even better, they recommend my services to their associates and colleagues. I don’t take on projects that are outside of my scope of expertise or experience. I won’t waste your time or mine if I don’t think I can help. My fees are reasonable with no hidden surprises. We agree on a price before I start the project. You can learn more about my skills and background by visiting my personal website here.

I write grants for Washington, DC area nonprofits, schools, universities, governmental agencies, businesses, churches and more. I live in Greenville, South Carolina but travel regularly to the Washington, DC area and am available to meet in person. In addition to direct grant writing services, I also provide one-on-one training. Be sure to contact me if you are seeking a Spanish speaking grant writer. I speak, read and write fluently in Spanish.

Through my partnership with Cal Miller and Associates I also offer half-day grant writing seminars.
