Man’s life is a long drama of pain. Happy days are very few. I too have had my share. Tenth of June, however, proved to be the happiest day of my life. The day was Tuesday. The day broke with a light drizzle. Clouds were still hovering in the sky. I got up a bit early. I was worried. The result had been out the previous night and yet I had no information about it

I sat over a cup of tea in this mood when lo! there was a noise of school fellows rushing towards my house. Soon they were upon me. They hugged me and told me that I had done remarkably well. I had not stood first in my school but had my name in the merit list. I was very happy. All showered congratulations on me. My parents too were very happy They served cold drinks to all who came to congratulate me.

It was around noon, we all sat at the dining table. The lunch was in progress. There was a loud knock at the door, ft was the up postman. I ran to him. He had brought a letter for me. The letter was from the Principal, Military School at Khadagwasala, intimating that I had passed the N.D.A. entrance Examination and was to report myself at the college by the 1st July. In one breath I visualized? my future — a brilliant military career before me.

The day wore on. There was joy on every face. I rested for a moment and was up again. I was to get ready because I had promised a treat to my friends. I was about to go when I received a telegram. It was from a distant relative, intimating1 mat my maternal uncle had left all his property to me. I stood dazed for some time. I thanked God. Such a good luck and all on one day ! I began to imagine that I was perhaps the happiest mortal alive. It was the happiest day of my life and I still remember it. That day changed the whole course of my life.
