A Commitment to Need-Based Financial Aid

This tool asks six basic financial questions and gives you an early estimate of the amount your family will need to contribute for one year at Pomona.

Pomona College is one of a handful of institutions which practice need-blind admissions and provide need-based financial aid.

  • Returning students: Deadline to re-apply for financial aid is April 15, 2017. Please use this checklist for renewing your financial aid.
  • The FA Office will be open for Admitted Student Days in the spring. Specific dates will be made available when determined by Admissions.

Any family who feels they may need help paying for a Pomona education is welcome to apply for aid. If admitted, applicants can be confident that their full financial need as determined by Pomona's aid office will be met.

How Our Financial Aid Works

  • Our financial aid package for each student is comprised of grants, scholarships, and a small work stipend. We do not package loans.
  • We determine need through a careful review of each family's financial circumstances. We also take into account special circumstances, and use fair and individual judgment in determining aid awards.
  • You're not required to take a loan to meet the cost of attending Pomona. Still, you might want to consider loans to help finance your family's contribution.

Pell Grant eligibility is based on financial need as determined by your FAFSA. Awards range in value from $598 - $5,815 based on financial need.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)

SEOG grants are available to a limited number of undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need and are eligible for the Pell Grant. Amounts vary but at Central they are typically $500.

Iowa Tuition Grant

The State of Iowa offers the Iowa Tuition Grant to students, who are residents of Iowa, who plan to attend one of the private colleges in Iowa. To be eligible for the Iowa Tuition Grant you must have filed the FAFSA form by July 1st. The amount is determined each year by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission but is normally around $
