Pros and cons of lining paper

Depending upon the assignment, your essay could be a simple summary of the pros and cons of an issue, or you might be required to decide which side is right or synthesize the pros and cons into concrete recommendations. As with all essays, a clear thesis guides the direction of your paper.

Research

Before you begin writing, you'll need to research your topic. Learn what other people say about the particular issue, and pick the strongest arguments on all sides of the issue. If you're writing about a social issue, you might need to gather statistical data or look at research studies.

Pros and Cons

The body of your paper should clearly outline the pros and cons of a particular issue. Devote at least one paragraph to each argument. You might, for example, dedicate a paragraph each to arguments in favor of the death penalty such as vengeance and deterrence, and a paragraph each to arguments against it such as executing the wrong person. Be charitable to each side, fairly summarizing the strongest points of an argument, even if you don't agree with it.

Conclusion

Your conclusion should summarize the points you've made, and outline any further questions raised by your essay.

by Bizzimum On relatively recent properties, it probably doesn't matter too much. But on a 400 year old place, with lots of difficult to stabilise lime-wash on the walls - you have to put it on horizontally, if you're papering over it. Otherwise the final paper will tend to pull the lining paper away, as the paste dries, where the 2 lots of joints are close.

It's surprisingly easy to put on horizontally. Bit like doing a sideways ceiling The only difficulty is when working on the upper part of the wall, you need trestles / boards. Or 2 sets of steps and the OH to move them as you carefully progress!

But - as DavetheDecorator - if your walls are poor to start with, lining / painting will probably only exaggerate the faults. You have to get rid of most of the imperfections first. And getting perfect butt joints on lining paper is not easy. I find aiming for a 1mm gap - then filling / lightly sanding that first before painting, is a fairly laborious way. But better than the problem you get if the lining paper starts to overlap? As it's not machined / stored as meticulously as wallpaper, and the edges wander a bit.
