Using File > Print > Adobe PDF printer runs the Word file straight through Adobe Distiller.

So, do use PDFMaker. Use the "configure" feature to select "Add Links to Adobe PDF".

Remember, only the content author controls what the target file is.
PDFMaker does not change the link syntax set by the Word hyperlink you establish.
So, a link to a file ending in a file extension of *.doc will, in the PDF, look for that specific *.doc file you set as the target and not the *.pdf of the PDF file you make from this *.doc file.

i.e., your target file, for the Word hyperlink is "Doc2.doc"; in the PDF the target file will still be "Doc2.doc", nothing else.

Finalize all the Word files then make a PDF from each.
