Vietnam is officially known in English as the "Socialist Republic of Vietnam" and Vietnam is part of South East Asia, bordered by ocean on the west and south, with China to the north and Cambodia and Laos to the West. Vietnam is about the size of New Mexico (329,560 sq km), but shaped in a long, narrow "S". The country can be conveniently divided into three distinct regions, the South, the Center and the North. The North of the country was the first to be settled and is characterized by the rich farming lands of the Red River Delta. In the South, the Mekong Delta is the country's most fertile region and Viet Nam's major rice and fruit producing area. The two great metropolises of the country are elegant capital city Hanoi and the dynamic, economic powerhouse Ho Chi Minh City. Many foreign languages, such as English, French, Chinese, German and Russian, are used in international relations.

The Culture of Viet Nam is also impacted by neighbor China countries and during French colonial period, Viet Nam culture received merchant influences from the Europeans that are the Latin alphabet to write a national language. In general, culture of Vietnam is a special blend of many ancient cultures with the indigenous culture of the Vietnamese; the most popular group is "Kinh" ethnic groups.

Vietnamese culture may be still mysterious and unknown to most people outside the country. There are a lot of factors that affect the culture of Viet Nam but everything always have two sides in good side or bad side. As discussed in class about culture, in geography we have three geographical factors: topography, climate and natural resources that affect it and then the impact on own society of these changes.

More than three quarters of Viet Nam's territory comprises mountains and hills. Four distinct mountainous zones or highlands may be identified - the north west, the north east, the northern Truong Son zone in north-central Viet Nam and the southern Truong Son zone in the south-central region. Almost these place are inhabited mainly by ethnic group such as Muong, Hmong, Jarai,Cham. But in recent years outside contact has changed their traditional culture, especially when tourism develop and expand to highland areas they tend to open mind, some people change to build the house like the "Kinh" people and the government give high technology such as electricity, water, telephone cable …come to people.

Moreover, the country has two major river deltas - the Red River Delta in the north and the Mekong Delta in the south, are fertile land, favorable climate. This is the biggest rice basket of Viet Nam. All of them affect the wet rice agriculture culture and get comfortable for the farmer. For example, Red River is an important part in daily life as well as in production. Alluvial help more fertile fields, and enriched and extended the delta coast of the province of Thai Binh, Nam Dinh. Source of fish the Red River has provided a considerable variety of freshwater fish farming in the northern delta. On the other side, due to large amount of silt that the river has always been filled causing floods often occur, so that long sides of the river we had to cover up the small dikes to prevent flood water compartment. It creates a culture for the people who stay here every year.

By contract, in the mountainous the topography isn't convenient for farmer, so they create terrace rice field and it is a form of cultivation on sloping land of many ethnic mountains high Sa Pa, Lao Cai province. Because in upland and mountainous areas with scarce land for farming, especially rice cultivation, people overcome by choosing the hillside, mountain soil is promoted to form the three-level ties with the land. Then, depending on the intention of farming that can lead to dry or water from the higher peaks. Terrace Sa Pa are creating a unique tourism products to Vietnam, especially after the travel magazine Travel and Leisure (USA) voted as one of seven fields stairs one great period in Asia and the world. These fields stairs "like the sun month" in the Village is always attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate in the south for two seasons (rainy season, from mid May to mid September, and the dry season, from mid October to mid April) and monsoon climate in the north with four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter). Because everywhere has difference seasons so there are some effect to the people and culture also.

The biggest effect to culture is culinary culture toward difference part of Viet Nam. Southern cuisine is influenced by French cuisine, Cambodia & Thailand. Today, it's easy to find in SaiGon (or Ho Chi Minh) myriad of special North, South or international, according to the original also, but still is more popular dishes are "SaiGon Dishes" because climate in SaiGon is always hot so they make put something more to suitable to the appetite of Southerners.

The North is a land of "exhaustion of local flexibility" with the capital Hanoi ancient, the people is always discreet high culture & pride in the elegant way to enjoy the pleasures that life offers from Northern Nature. Northern cuisine is not bold and spicy, sweet with other regions, mainly water use fish sauce. The richness and diversity of the northern cuisine is a result of the weather, for example, Hanoi has been selected as the 2nd best city for food in the world by Sherman Travel, Vietnam's national dish Pho has been also named as one of the Top 5 famous food in the world.

In addition, the climate in fact has influences in the way people dressing. Depend on the weather if it is hot they prefer to wear traditional material that smooth and cool like cotton, satin, silk, so that they feel convenient and fresh. And because in the North they has a winter season so they need to wear jackets and winter clothes to save their health.

Nature resource

All natural resources of Vietnam are land, water, mineral, soil, gas, iron, etc. Vietnam has 4 world heritages recognized by UNESCO, beautiful beaches, national ecologic forests, countryside, highland and historic places.

Vietnam has large forest resources so they have a large amount of wood. In some mountainous regions the ethnic minorities live together focus in ridge or valley and they deforest to make farm such as Hmong people living in high social and Pa Co Hang Kia Mai Chau district. Previously, people tend to live shifting cultivation, nomadic. But later the government gave them to farming and settlement stability and development along with other ethnic groups.

Besides Viet Nam has a lots rivers and sea so they always create a sea festival to thank "the sea god" and it considered a highlight unique bold spiritual cultural life of coastal population. Actually, it also creates a superstition in here that is spiritual culture of the coastal fishermen festival. It is a part of tradition culture and customs passed down from one generation to the next. It brings a different content is not less important, a chance to show their feelings, emotional lives of fishermen before challenging the vast sea and reflecting the desire for a life of peace, it adequate for coastal communities. It just brings the strong belief for fishermen and helps them assured when they work.

In my summary, the culture of Viet Nam has a length history and follows the flows of time; Viet Nam has been impacted by different cultures from outside and different factors from nature like climate, topography or nature resource as well as. Despite of the change of environment, we try to overcome obstacles and difficulties to survive and make life better. However, when foreigner come to own country such as to do business, they bring their culture also and sometimes it has become big effects to own culture because some origin culture can quickly change and replaced by them, so the government need to do something to preserve the national culture before it can disappear in some another day. As a young generation and live in 21st century, and I'm Vietnamese also, I believe that not only me but also others can keep the traditional culture and respect it honestly.
